Read all about Heusden

Heusden is a beautifully restored fortified town with charming shops, art galleries, spacious harbors, and cozy terraces.

Every Sunday afternoon, the shops are open and you can join a guided city walk at 14:30.

The fortified town of Heusden features fully restored defenses and 134 listed monuments. The town developed around one of the oldest water castles in Northwestern Europe and was one of the first Dutch cities to be surrounded by walls. After 1968, the town was extensively restored based on Blaeu’s 1649 map. In 1980, Heusden received the highest European restoration award, ‘Urbes Nostrae.’

Visitors can join a guided city walk every Sunday afternoon. This walk offers insight into the most beautiful and interesting parts of the town. The guide shares stories about its history, fortifications, restoration, and notable buildings during a 75-minute tour.

The walk starts at 14:30 at the Visitor Center on Pelsestraat 17 in Heusden.

Relax. Enjoy. Be yourself.
